Today’s Date with Excel

Entering today's date in Excel is a relatively simple process with the TODAY function.  The function is elegant as it requires no arguments just the TODAY().  So simple and so effective.

Both TODAY and NOW Explained

Here is an example of the TODAY function in action.

Todays date Excel

The entry in any cell will give you today’s date. That simple.

NOW

To enter the current date and time in Excel the NOW function is required. It works very similar to the TODAY Function however you get the addition of the time. So it is up to the minute calculation. Every time Excel recalculates it will change.

NOW in Excel date

Note the time after the date. Both the TODAY and NOW functions take no arguments. So to execute the NOW formula, use the following:

=NOW()
